Man beat himself with rock to get day off work

A man today admitted beating himself up with a boulder to get the day off work.

Steven Reid, 23, from Aberdeen, claimed he was assaulted on his way to his job on March 22.

But it later emerged he told his friend he faked the attack because he couldn't be bothered going and fancied a day off.

After previously admitting wasting police time, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard who Reid injured himself by repeatedly dragging a razor down his face and beating himself on the head and body with a boulder.

Sheriff Graeme Buchanan described it as a "bizarre" case.

Following the incident Reid went to the police station and said he had been assaulted by two male persons who repeatedly punched and kicked him.

During follow up questions Reid admitted faking the assault but claimed he did not think police would bother investigating it.

Reid’s solicitor attributed his bizarre behaviour to severe stress brought on by his work and home life.

Reid, who is now unemployed, was fined £100 by Sheriff Buchanan.
