Angry campaigners gathered outside council offices to protest against fuel prices in the Western Isles.
Up to 60 protestors surrounded Scottish Fuels boss Sam Chambers as he arrived to meet with SNP MP Angus MacNeil and MSP Alasdair Allan on Friday.
Local people are angry at being forced to pay nearly £1 more per gallon than motorists on the mainland.
The politicians wants the Scottish Parliament to hold an inquiry into the Scottish Fuel monopoly in the Hebrides while Western Isles Council is setting up a special fuel task group to campaign about the extra high cost.
Mr MacNeill said: "There was no evidence at all given to us that justifies the big differences that we have with the mainland.
"The feeling we still have is we are paying over the odds.
"They did concede a lack of competition can impact the process.
"The one thing they did say is that they do sell all their fuel in the Hebrides at the same price to all retailers."
He said they will continue to press for an independent inquiry and hope to meet again in the coming months.
Plans from the UK Government for a five pence fuel discount for island communities has recently received European approval, but has not yet been brought in.
Local councillor John Mackay said the retailers want to see the discount brought in at the wholesale level, rather than at the petrol pumps.
"I've got a feeling that at least what came out of it was they will look at the issue and get bakc to us," he said.
"That is one thing that is positive.
"They are going to show us the accounts and how things work out."
