The annual Aviemore Sled Dog Rally will take place on snow this weekend for the first time in 15 years.
Usually a lack of the white stuff means racers are forced to use three-wheeled rigs instead of traditional sleds.
However the remnants of the recent big freeze are still visible in the Cairngorms to the delight of the 1,000 competitors and their dogs.
As well as the huskies, Samoyeds, Malamutes and a rare breed called the Canadian Eskimo Dog will also be competing.
Organiser Judy Wakker said: “This is the first race on snow since 1995, so it’s going to be the first time for a lot of teams running on sleds with snow.
“However because there is so much snow, it is proving something of a logistical challenge.
“The ski company were going to lend us a machine to help flatten the trail but unfortunately it got stuck up on the mountain, so now it’s just a matter of hard work to flatten the trail.”
The event is due to get underway first thing on Saturday morning.
