A man whose sex romp with a teenage schoolgirl was exposed by a jealous ex-girlfriend has been jailed for two years.
A court heard that Richard Matthews, 22, was in Inverness' Porterfield Prison facing another sex charge when he penned a note to the 14-year-old girl about their brief encounter in his home in Wick, Caithness.
He told her she was the last woman he "had been with."
Advocate depute Morag Jackson told the High Court in Edinburgh that Matthews' ex-partner thought this was a reference to having sex.
She took the letter to police, who then interviewed the schoolgirl and she told them what had happened. Matthews pleaded guilty to having sex with an underage girl at an address in Wellington Avenue, Wick, in November or December last year.
He also admitted a charge of indecency with a 12-year-old, also at his home, towards the end of last year. Ms Jack said the house in Wellington Avenue had become a regular venue for drunken teenage parties.
The 12-year-old girl told police she had been there and told Matthews her age during a conversation. She later went to leave, but as she reached a door Matthews locked it and stood in front of her. He started to fondle her and brought his face close in a bid to kiss her.
The frightened girl told him to "go away" before unlocking the door and fleeing from the house. The 14-year-old, meanwhile, said she went to Matthews' home with a friend. After her friend left Matthews asked her to go to a bedroom. They started kissing and later had sex.
Ms Jack said Matthews was "well aware" of the girl's age, but added that she did not object to him having sex with her and she was not threatened or forced to take part.
On Thursday, judge Lord Hodge said he was taking that into account when sentencing Matthews but his "sexual misconduct" demanded a prison sentence.
Matthews is already serving a jail term for another sex offence, the court heard.
The judge also made an order extending Matthews' licence conditions for an extra three years, telling him he hoped the supervision would keep him out of further trouble.
