The Odeon cinema in Dunfermline has announced that it is to install a new digital 3D screen.

The cinema in Dunfermline is one of 19 Odeon cinemas in the UK that are to have 3D screens installed this year.

Margot Moon, general manager at the cinema, told the Dunfermline Press: "The team at Odeon Dunfermline is thrilled to be bringing a truly immersive 3D cinema experience to Fife.

"With 2009 promising to be such an exciting year for 3D film, we can't wait for local film fanatics to experience the state-of-the-art technology for themselves and enjoy this year's biggest blockbusters in the highest quality possible."

Hollywood has decided that 2009 is going to be the year of 3D and a number of films that will utilise the technology have been scheduled for release, including Monsters vs Aliens, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Up, G-Force, A Christmas Carol and Avatar.

The first film to be screened on this state-of-the-art technology in Dunfermline will be Disney's Bolt, the latest 3D blockbuster, which is released on February 6.

The screening at the complex in Fife Leisure Park will be held one week before the standard version of the film is released in the UK.
