A Borders couple say they have been left devastated by the loss of their toddler son, who died after falling into a garden pond.
Three-year-old Charlie Berry toppled into the water during a visit to a house in Edinburgh’s Murrayfield area last Thursday.
Paramedics were called to the scene and Charlie was rushed to the city’s Sick Kids Hospital but staff were unable to resuscitate him.
At the family home in Kelso, his father Brian described the death as a "tragic accident" while his mother Julie added: “We are devastated.”
The family, who have three other sons, are now preparing for a celebration of the youngster’s life, which will take place at Kelso North Parish Church on Saturday.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “Lothian and Borders Police and paramedics were called to an incident in the Murrayfield area of Edinburgh on Thursday, July 22, relating to a male child who had fallen into a garden pond.
"The three-year-old was taken to the Royal Edinburgh Hospital for Sick Children but was unable to be resuscitated.
"A full investigation was carried out surrounding his death and the circumstances confirmed as non-suspicious.”
