Fife Police seize £250,000 of drugs during early morning raids

Raids: Police in Fife have conducted 34 searches in the past 6 weeks.

Police in Fife seized more than £250,000 worth of drugs and made ten arrests during a series of early morning raids across the kingdom on Friday morning.

Twelve addresses were searched during the operation, which involved officers from the Fife force's drugs squad and dogs section, scenes of crime officers and specialist search teams.

The team uncovered heroin, cannabis and valium with a street value estimated at over £250,000. Ten people have been reported to the procurator fiscal and police say further arrests have not been ruled out. Friday's swoops bring the total number of operations across the kingdom in the last six weeks to 34. Drugs worth more than £500,000 have been seized so far.

Detective Superintendent Garry McEwan said "Operation Laser is an ongoing force-wide initiative that has produced exceptional results.  The enforcement activity this morning is the culmination of a series of targeted activities against drug dealers identified as operating within Fife.

"Lying at the heart of this operation is a desire to tackle issues that have been identified as being most important by local communities.  Suffice to say the information and intelligence gathered by engagement with the public has shaped today's operation and directly influenced target selection.

"Tackling Drugs and Serious Organised Crime is a very high priority for Fife Constabulary and the purpose of today's operation was to undertake a coordinated intelligence-led drugs initiative designed to disrupt and dismantle these groups at every level – we have achieved that today.

"I would again like to thank the local community for their support and ask that they continue to contact local officers with information and intelligence."
