Police probe serious assault in Dalkeith

A man has been left with broken bones in his face after being assaulted in Dalkeith.

The victim was struck in the face by an unknown assailant in the Gibraltar Gardens area of the town on Saturday.

He was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, but later transferred to St John's Hospital for treatment on a fractured cheekbone and a broken bone underneath his eye.

A police spokesman said: “This has been a very serious assault that has left the victim with some painful injuries to his face.

“Unfortunately, we have no description of the individual responsible and are appealing for anyone who was in the area around 8.30pm and saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.”
