A cyclist has been left seriously injured after being hit by a car in West Lothian.

The woman was thrown onto the bonnet and windscreen of a van and suffered head and chest injuries.

Police are now appealing for information about the accident, which happened at around 6pm on Sunday evening.

The woman had been cycling eastbound along Drumshoreland Road in Pumpherston when she was struck by the Fiat Ducato.

The road was closed for around 3 hours and a full accident investigation was carried out.

The woman is being treated in Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, where her condition is described as serious.
