Man hospitalised following assault in Edinburgh

Police are appealing for information after man was knocked out during an unprovoked assault in Edinburgh.

The 23-year-old is being treated in the ERI after a punch led to him hitting his head on a kerb.

He was assaulted after getting out of a taxi on the city's York Place at around 3.30am on Thursday.

A police spokesman said: "Thankfully, the man who was assaulted was not more seriously injured. However, we are treating this incident seriously.

"Anyone who was in York Place at the time, and witnessed the assault, should contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who has information that can assist our enquiries is also asked to get in touch."

His attacker is described as mixed race, possibly of Turkish origin, around 20-years-old, 5'7" to 5'8" tall and with a medium build and short dark hair. He also may have had a mole on his face.

He was wearing a light pink stripy shirt with dark navy jeans and black shoes, and spoke with a north east English accent.

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.
