The Scots composer behind the soundtracks for films including Moulin Rouge will be honoured in Edinburgh on Thursday.
Craig Armstrong is being given an Honorary Doctorate of Music at Edinburgh Napier University.
The Glasgow-born musician has worked with artists including U2, Madonna and Massive Attack and created the soundtracks for the Oscar-winning Ray Charles biopic Ray and blockbuster The Incredible Hulk.
He has also composed for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta and holds two BAFTAS, two Ivor Novellos, a Golden Globe and a Grammy.
Mr Armstrong said: "I've received a number of awards over my life time but this one is particularly meaningful as it has its roots embedded in education and learning. Institutions like the Edinburgh Napier School of Music are so important and help nurture the next generation of musical talent.
"I wish the many gifted students graduating from the School of Music today all the very best and hope that, just as I have been inspired by their achievements, they are inspired by mine."
Among the others receiving awards from the institution are former student and Crombie Anderson founder Douglas Anderson and David C Watt from the Institute of Directors. Both men will receive Honorary Doctorates in Business Administration.
The university's Principal, Professor Dame Joan Stringer, said: "We are delighted to be honouring individuals who have made such significant contributions to enriching our culture, building our economies and servicing our communities in so many ways. Their achievements together with their qualities will serve to inspire our students."
