A terrified beautician was snatched from the street in broad daylight, held in a drinking den littered with porn and raped eight times.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard two Polish cousins blasted the woman in the face with pepper spray and dragged her to their makeshift shelter in Dalry as she was walking home from work in February.

The traumatised 24-year-old later told police she didn't think the pair would let her live.

Migrant facing life in prison for eight hour rape and kidnap ordeal

On Tuesday, 21-year-old Michal Marchlewski, a Polish migrant, plead guilty to a number of charges including abduction, rape and robbery.

His 26-year-old cousin, Thomas Kryczyk, had previously been expected to admit to his part in the crime, but instead committed suicide while remanded in Saughton Prison.

Insiders described the rape ordeal as one of the worst ever seen in Edinburgh, with even Marchlewski's lawyer telling the court: "Sometimes there is nothing you can say in mitigation of the offence itself."

The pair snatched their Australian victim as she walked home from work through an underpass below the Western Approach Road.

Six footer Marchlewski grabbed her from behind and she was dragged down an embankment through undergrowth to the makeshift shelter.

The court heard they then removed balaclavas, and the woman told police she thought they would kill her because she had seen their faces.

For most of the eight hours which followed, the weeping woman was inside the tiny shelter with Kryczk while Marchlewski was outside.

Kryczk began kissing the sobbing woman and every time she cried he made a gesture as if he would slit her throat. He also threatened her with a screwdriver pressed against her head.

She offered her bank card and PIN number and was told "Cash you go. No problem. No cash you die."

Kryczk then stripped her and made her perform oral sex on him before raping her for the first time. She said that as Kryczk was having sex, Marchlewski was watching from outside and laughing.

She was then forced to give Marchlewski oral sex while the other man continued to rape her.

Prosecutors told the court: "The woman recalls Kryczk raping her five or six times during the eight hours she was held by him and the accused. She recalls the accused raped her twice."

At one point the woman saw a shadow pass the shelter and tried to escape, shouting loudly for help, but was dragged back inside and was too scared to try again.

Describing events later she said: "I was trying to gain their trust in a sick kind of way. I was trying to pretend like I didn't care.

"I really felt numb. I didn't feel anything emotionally. I just felt some physical pain of the intercourse but barely anything emotionally.

"It was like I was not there, almost like an out of body experience."

Eventually the two men packed items, including the woman's iPod and keys, into a suitcase and said she could leave.

She ran home, where her husband was becoming frantic because he had not heard from her and she had left her mobile phone at home.

The court heard the couple were so distressed by her ordeal, they had now returned to Australia and were both receiving counselling.

Marchlewski turned up at Kryczk's Dalry home the following day and told him: "We should have killed her by strangling her and then nobody would've known about it."

On Tuesday, Judge Lord Bracadale told Marchlewski he was considering a life sentence for the repeated rapes and other sexual assaults.

He said: "Taken together, this case reflects an extreme level of wickedness and afterwards you were heard commenting that you should have killed her."

Marchlewski has now been remanded in custody to allow for the preparation of a risk assessment. He will return to court on January 7 next year.
