A man has been assaulted and robbed in Edinburgh City Centre.
The 21-year-old was walking up St Mary's Street when he was approached by four men at around 11.40pm on Saturday night.
They then punched him repeatedly to the head and body, knocking him over, before demanding his wallet and phone.
The group then made off with the man's valuables, fleeing down the road towards the Cowgate and Holyrood Road.
Their victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after sustaining cuts and sweeling to his face.
POlice are now appealing for infomration from anyone who may have seen the group, all described as white, in their late teens and with brown hair.
A police spokesman said: "Fortunately the young man involved in this incident did not sustain more serious injuries. Nevertheless he was left very shaken and sore and we are treating this very seriously.
"Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious or has information to help with our enquiries should contact police immediately."
Officers say there is nothing to connect the attack with a seperate assault and robbery in Restalrig on Monday.
