A competition designed to change the way Scots school kids learn about veterans is being launched in Edinburgh.

The Poppyscotland contest will see children compete to write poems based on moving combat images from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Acclaimed war photographer Robert Wilson has provided a series of images from current British conflicts.

Renowned Army poet Lieutenant Colonel J B Brown will read his work to pupils from Hermitage Park Primary and James Gillespie's High at the launch at the Scottish Poetry Library on Monday.

The contest is open to youngsters across the country and has been organised by the Poppy Appeal in collaboration with Learning and Teaching Scotland.

It is hoped the new apprach will revolutionise the way children in Scotland learn about veterans and previous conflicts.
