Package to police HQ called a 'hoax'

Police are calling a suspect package that arrived at Lothian and Border Police a "hoax".

The force headquarters at Fettes in Edinburgh was evacuated at 8.45am on Monday as a precaution.

Around 350 police officers and civilian staff were temporarily moved to an unoccupied school next to the Fettes Avenue headquarters.

A bomb-disposal squad from the Royal Logistical Corps examined the package and found it to be a "hoax device". Police said the package was made safe by the squad and there was no controlled explosion required.

Officers and staff returned to work by 11.25am.

There were no injuries.

Police said they have launched an investigation.

The force's call centre, which his based in Midlothian, was been affected.
