A shopkeeper fought off an armed robber who tried to steal the till from the shop.
The worker and two customers were inside the A&S Premier Shop in Sheephousehill Road, Fauldhouse at around 5.45pm on Sunday when the thief walked in.
He brandished a knife and demanded the man hand over the till. He then tried to grab it off the counter but was fought off by the shopkeeper. The man then ran off towards Barton Terrace.
The man was white and tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a dark hoodie, blue jeans, brown Timberland boots, gloves and a grey Tammy hat. A scarf was covering his face.
Lothian and Borders Police are now appealing for witnesses as they try and track down the would-be robber.
A spokesman for the force said: "The shopkeeper was very brave to fight this man off despite being presented with a knife.
"We are now keen to speak with anyone who was in the area at around 5.45pm last night and remembers seeing anything or anyone suspicious.
"Similarly, anyone with information that can help identify the man responsible for this incident is asked to contact police immediately."
Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
