False teeth and sofa cushions among items found in beach clean-up

False teeth, sofa cushions, bike tyres and a volleyball have been found washed up on a beach.

The items were discovered during the Big Beach Clean-up at Cramond beach in Edinburgh.

Organised by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and Marks and Spencer, the operation on Friday saw 215 people retrieve rubbish from the the sands.

Around 350kg of rubbish were scooped up by 70 schoolchildren, 80 volunteers and 60 Marks and Spencer staff.

A lantern, a bike seat, a football, a golf ball and a bracelet charm were among the recovered items.

Barbara Heslop from Marks and Spencer said: "It was great to see so many people of all ages coming out to do their bit for the environment and we relished the chance to get out onto the beach along with customers to help.

"We’d like to extend a huge thank-you to everyone who rolled their sleeves up and helped clean up Cramond Beach."
