Derailed train: Services restart after line was cleared.STV

A rail line has reopened two days after a freight train derailed causing chaos for travellers.

A section of the Freightliner train came off the line at Aberdeen on Wednesday afternoon.

Rail services were severely disrupted as teams worked to remove the stricken train from the line.

A heavy lifting crane was drafted to the north-east from Wigan on Thursday evening to help clear the line.

Crews worked through the night to make sure services were up-and-running by Friday morning.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has launched an inquiry into how the accident happened.

Transport Scotland confirmed that there was no threat of an environmental impact from the derailment of the freight train, which was not carrying any goods at the time.
