Long to rain over us: Prince Charles takes over Scots weather forecast

Royal reporter: Prince Charles hosts TV weather forecast.

Weather forecasts in Scotland contain more twists and turns than the average soap opera, but viewers got a surprise to rival sunshine in Lochaber when they tuned in at lunchtime on Thursday.

Prince Charles turned his hand to presenting the forecast during a tour of BBC Scotland's studios in Glasgow.

The specially scripted forecast contained references to royal residences such as Balmoral, although not even the heir to the throne could entirely dispel the clouds on the horizon.

"It's an unsettled picture as we head towards the end of the week. This afternoon, it'll be cold, wet and windy across most of Scotland," Charles said.

"There'll be snow for the higher ground of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire - the potential for a few flurries over Balmoral as the afternoon goes on."

He finished with an improvised royal flourish, commenting: "Thank God it isn't a Bank Holiday".

Charles and Camilla, who are styled the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, were in Glasgow during a week-long tour of Scotland.

They were shown the news studio by presenter Sally Magnusson and introduced to the BBC Scotland weather team.

Weatherman Stav Danaos said afterwards: "They did a great job and were consummate professionals. The Prince even ended with his own pay-off line, which is always good."

Following their tour of the studios, the royal couple travelled to the City of Glasgow College to meet young people taking part in the Prince's Trust Get Into Cooking Programme.

Aimed at 16 to 25-year-olds, the programme is designed to give youngsters the skills and experience needed to work in the hospitality sector.
