Faulty helicopter airlifted from one of Scotland's highest mountains

A major operation was launched to recover an RAF rescue helicopter which got stuck on one of Scotland's highest mountains.

A Chinook helicopter has been drafted in to airlift a Sea King aircraft from a Highland mountain after it developed a problem.

The Sea King from RAF Lossiemouth was scrambled to airlift two hill climbers who became cragfast near the summit of Aonach Mor near Fort William on Tuesday evening.

After landing on the mountain with four members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue team, the RAF crew released their helicopter had developed a problem and could not fly back down.

It is understood that the rescue team members had to walk off the mountain, along with the two climbers they had arrived to rescue.

On Wednesday a Chinook helicopter was brought in to carry out a dramatic airlift, bringing the Sea King back down from the mountain.
