Shop assistant threatened by man with knife in robbery attempt

A robber attempted to steal cash from a newsagents by threatening a shop assistant with a knife.

The man walked into the RS McColl store on Delta Drive, Musselburgh, at 9.45pm on Monday, before producing the weapon and demanding money.

The woman employee refused to hand over any cash, despite the suspect attempting to open the till himself.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s and around 5ft 5ins tall with a slim build and dark eyes.

Lothian and Borders Police are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "The male was thwarted by the sales assistant's refusal to hand over any money and we are now keen to identify and trace him.

"Anyone who was in or around Delta Drive yesterday evening and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who believes they recognise the description of the suspect is also asked to get in touch."
