Police in Glasgow are appealling for witnesses after a fire was started outside a property in Pollokshields.
A 43-year-old man and his 28-year-old partner who were inside the flat in St Andrews Drive managed to escape onto a balcony when they saw smoke in the hall.
Emergency services were called and they extinguished the fire which had been set at the front door.
The couple were then taken to the Victoria Infirmary where they were treated for smoke inhalation.
Police said there are no descriptions of the suspects responsible.
The incident happened at around 4pm on Friday.
Detective Constable Peter Paterson said: "Thankfully neither of the people at home were seriously injured.
"However, I am very concerned that someone would blatantly set a fire in a common close in the middle of day with no thought to what the consequence might be, not only to the people in the flat effected but all the other residents of the block."
Anyone with information can contact Gorbals police on 0141 532 5500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
