Police officer charged with running red light in patrol car

Court: PC Sherrington will return to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court later this month.

A police officer has been charged with running a red light while on duty and crashing into another car.

PC David Sherrrington, 31, was in a patrol car at a crossroads in Irvine, Ayrshire, when the alleged offence happened in January.

Sherrington appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday accused of driving without due care and attention and failing to comply with traffic lights.

The police officer is also accused of entering a junction while it was unsafe and colliding with another car, damaging both vehicles.

He made no plea or declaration and his case was continued until later this month.
