A Frenchman has appeared in court accused of terrorising people in a Borders village with an axe.
Pascal Thuillier-Charmer appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday charged with breach of the peace.
It is said the 50-year-old approached a vehicle, caused it to stop, spat on the ground and brandished an axe at the occupants.
A seven-year-old child was a passenger in the car during the alleged incident in Fishers Brae, Coldingham, on Wednesday.
Thuillier-Charmer is also charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges and a trial will be held in August.
Thuilier-Charmer provided a French address to the court and bail was granted.
