Police are appealing for information following the discovery of a suspicious package in Glasgow.

On Friday, bomb disposal experts were called in to deal with device in the north east of the city.

It's understood the device was placed under a black Mercedes car and was targeted specifically at well-known convicted armed robber Ian 'Blink' McDonald.

Bomb disposal experts spent all day Friday working on the package after they were contacted by a member of the public. Robots were used during the operation in Lochview Gardens, near Hogganfield Loch.

The device was removed in the early afternoon and enquiries into the device are ongoing.

20 people from nearby flats were evacuated, while Cumbernauld Road was closed between Royston Road and Provanmill Road for most of the day.

On Saturday, a spokesperson from Strathclyde Police said: "The police are appealing for information following the recovery of a suspicious package from under a vehicle in Glasgow. We would like to appeal to members of the public who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area of Lochview Gate particularly between the hours of 8pm on Thursday and 9.30am on Friday morning.

Detective Superintendent Alan Buchanan added: "At this stage, we do not know what we are dealing with as we are still making enquiries into the device, however if this was intended to cause an explosion, members of the public could have been at risk of serious harm, and the person(s) responsible must be traced."
