Accolade for Forres fashion entrepreneur

A fashion entrepreneur who is based in the Highlands has won a special commendation at a prestigious award ceremony in London.

Elena Corchero was given the accolade at the UK Young Fashion Entrepreneur Awards held recently during London Fashion Week.

She is currently a senior research associate at Distance Lab, a technology research company based at Horizon Scotland in Forres.

Ms Corchero said in a statement, "I am delighted to receive this award. The other finalists were all so amazing and I loved all their work. It is wonderful to have your own work recognised in this way."

Michael Oliveira-Salac, award adjudicator, said: "The judges felt strongly about Elena's unique contribution to fashion. We liked her interdisciplinary approach of developing a kind of hub for creatives in different fields to network and collaborate.

"Her success will be determined by the collaborations she has with fashion designers."

The award scheme provided the six young short-listed finalists with the opportunity to spend two weeks exploring the fashion Industry in India.

Ms Corchero visited fashion centres in New Delhi, Ahmadabad, Jaipur and Mumbai.

She said: "This has been a wonderful experience for me and the other finalists. Getting the opportunity to visit India and explore the rich diversity of the fashion industry over there is something that I will never forget. We all came back from the trip inspired and with a new creative energy.

"The opportunity to collaborate and learn from Indian crafts and traditions is amazing we all came back with so many exciting ideas".
