Sometimes described as one of the most innovative pipe bands in Grade 1, Vale of Atholl didn't disappoint at the Cowal Highland Gathering 2008.

The provided a musically diverse medley set which wowed the audience during their championship entry.

The Cowal Gathering has become something of a Scottish institution since it was first held back in 1894, when it attracted fewer than 2,000 spectators.

Nowadays Cowal attracts more than 3,500 competitors,  many from throughout Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

There are displays of classic cars, a solo piping competition, the pipe band championships, heavy athletic and shinty competitions, track athletic events and massed bands, and a grand march through the town.

Held in Dunoon, Argyll, the town regularly welcomes around 15,000 to 20,000 visitors for the games. All the events take place over three days during the last weekend in August, doubling the town's population for the weekend.
