Tommy Sheridan and his wife Gail are to stand trial on perjury charges.
The 44-year-old politician, who was recently a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother, also faces a charge of attempted subornation of perjury - persuading another person to commit perjury.
Mr Sheridan was served with legal papers on Tuesday. The documents confirmed the prosecution against him will go ahead - more than a year after he was charged by police.
A spokesman from the Crown Office said the indictment was in connection with a defamation case between Mr Sheridan and the News of the World newspaper in 2006.
Mr Sheridan was awarded £200,000 damages in the civil case after the Sunday newspaper printed allegations about his private life. The News of the World then appealed the verdict
The Sheridans previously appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on March 27 charged with perjury. Neither of them made any plea or declaration, and both were admitted to bail.
A preliminary hearing is now scheduled for February 26 at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Both Mr and Mrs Sheridan deny the charges.
Mr Sheridan is currently one of two co-convenors of the Solidarity Party, having been convenor of the Scottish Socialist Party until 2004.
He rose to prominence in the Scottish anti-Poll Tax movement in the 1980s, and was a founder of the Scottish Socialist Party, which was formed from the Scottish Socialist Alliance in 1998.
