A teenager who stopped a man on a city centre street to ask for a cigarette was dragged into a car park and raped.

The 18-year-old woman was walking along Paisley Road West in Glasgow in the early hours of Sunday, April 22 when the attack took place.

As she passed the Swallow Hotel, she stopped a passing male and asked him for a cigarette. They were sitting together on a wall smoking when the male suddenly grabbed the teenager and forced her into the hotel car park.

Once there, he subjected her to a sexual assault.

The woman subsequently ran back onto Paisley Road West and flagged down a taxi and asked for help.

The driver took the woman to a friend’s house in Middleton Street, Govan, as she requested.

She reported the rape, which took place at around 2.30am, to police later that day.

Officers are hunting a suspect who is described as being in his forties, of medium build, slightly overweight, and wearing a dark leather jacket.

Detective Constable Sandy Ward at Govan CID said: "Despite examining CCTV and carrying out extensive enquiries we have yet to trace any witnesses to this incident.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this woman and man sitting on the wall outside the Swallow Hotel. I especially would like the taxi driver who picked the woman up and drove her to Middleton Street to contact police.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Govan CID on 0141 532 5400 or alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.”
