The wife of former Scotland international footballer Lee Miller has died aged 29.
The ex-Aberdeen and Dundee United striker said wife Donna, the mother of the couple's two young boys, died overnight.
The cause of the 29-year-old's death has not yet been released. In an announcement posted on social networking site Twitter, Mr Miller wrote: "Saddest day of my life.RIP Donna.......u will always b loved!!..a wonderful mum 2 our beautiful boys!!..they will never 4get u!!..xxx"
Just hours before posting the announcement Miller, who now plays for League One club Carlisle Utd, had used the site to talk about Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final tie between Chelsea and Barcelona.
In a statement posted on the club's website, a spokesman for Carlisle United said: "The thoughts of the directors, staff and everyone connected with Carlisle United Football Club are with Lee Miller and his family at the sad news of the passing of his partner Donna last night.
"The club is sure that everyone will respect the privacy of the family at this very sad time."
Lee and Donna, whose maiden name is Gilhoolie, married at St Mary's Church, Dalmahoy, Edinburgh in 2008.
The couple had a home in Wishaw, Lanarkshire.
Miller has played for clubs across the UK. Last week, he was named Carlisle’s player of the year after scoring 14 goals in 29 games.
