A teenager has appeared in court accused of abducting and attempting to murder an elderly woman in her home.

The woman, who is thought to be in her 70s, was found "extremely shaken" in Clober Road, Milngavie, following the alleged incident at her home in nearby Bearsden, on the outskirts of Glasgow, last Wednesday.

Police said she appeared to have been subjected to an "horrific and terrifying" attack.

David Madden, 18, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday charged with abduction, two counts of attempted murder, assault and a road traffic offence.

He made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

Madden, from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, was remanded in custody until his next appearance, which is expected to be on March 12.
