Two men have appeared in court in connection with an alleged murder bid on a 46-year-old man in Perth on Monday night.

Thomas McLeish, 39, and William Black, 36, are alleged to have tried to murder George MacPhee by hitting him with a metal pole and repeatedly stabbing him.

McLeish, of Strathtay Road, and Black, of County Place, both Perth, appeared briefly in private at Perth Sheriff Court to face the attempted murder petition.

It is alleged that they acted together to assault Mr MacPhee at 20 County Place on February 20 and struck him on the head with a metal pole.

They are accused of then stabbing him repeatedly on the body to his severe injury and attempting to murder him.

Black is also alleged to have been on bail at the time.

Both accused made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.

They were both remanded in custody by Sheriff Michael Fletcher.
