A man repeatedly tried to set himself on fire in a petrol station in Aberdeen

Craig Forbes attempted to ignite a cigarette lighter in the forecourt of the Torq Service Station on Boxing Day last year. The 25-year-old was also caught using his mobile phone at the garage on Great Northern Road.

Forbes, of Aberdeen, has admitted causing danger to life and property at the garage by behaving in a culpable and reckless manner in repeatedly trying to start a fire.

Defence solicitor Mike Monro told Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Wednesday that Forbes had been seen by a doctor shortly after the incident.

Sheriff Graeme Napier said: "It must have been extremely frightening for a lot of people in that there was a danger that you would succeed in what you set out to do. You will appreciate this is not the way to behave."

He deferred sentence for six months for Forbes to work with mental health specialists and prove he could behave himself.
