Two people have been detained after drugs raids on homes in the Borders.

Officers searched the homes in the Langlee area of Galashiels after tip-offs saying they were being used to make and sell drugs.

A 36-year-old was arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police found cannabis. He is due to appear at court at a later date.

A woman was also detained in connection with another drugs investigation and released pending further enquiries.

Lothian and Borders Police are reassuring residents the area is still safe to live in and want help cracking down on drugs.

Sergeant Russell Copeland said: "The Langlee area, like the rest of Galashiels and the Scottish Borders remains a safe place to live, work and visit.

"Nevertheless the scourge of drugs can have a devastating impact on an area and police must respond appropriately to any intelligence we receive relating to drug crime.

"We continually engage with local residents and businesses across the Scottish Borders as part of our Community Commitment pledge and will take all the necessary steps to address any issues or concerns they may have.

"Our presence within Langlee today has sent a very clear message that we will robustly investigate any reports of crime within our communities.

"It should also serve as a reminder that the public will not tolerate criminals plaguing their local area and will work alongside police to identify and remove these individuals from the community."
