Body recovered after estuary rescue attempt

Rescue attempt: RNLI lifeboat helped after man reported in water

A man's body has been recovered from an estuary after a rescue attempt on Tuesday.

Emergency services went to the scene at the Montrose Basin in Angus after receiving reports of a man in the water, police said.

Tayside Police, the RNLI inshore lifeboat and ambulance personnel were involved in dealing with the incident near the Montrose Bridge this afternoon.

The body of a 49-year-old man was recovered from the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's family has been informed.

It is not known how he came to be in the water but it is understood that no one else was involved.

Police said that a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
