Dame Anne Begg, Labour MP for Aberdeen South, is in hospital with a broken arm and leg after a fall from her wheelchair.
The accident happened near Westminster in London on Tuesday afternoon, when her chair caught on some loose paving stones.
A Labour spokesman said that Dame Anne is currently being treated at St Thomas Hospital in London but hopes to move to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary soon. She is expected to make a full recovery and her office remains open.
The Labour spokesman said: "She has had many calls from people wishing her well and we all wish her a speedy recovery and are thinking of her at this time, but we know that even though she is in hospital she is still working and carrying on with her constituency case work."
The MP was made a dame in the 2011 New Year Honours list for services to disabled people and to equal opportunities.
The politician is thought to be the first full-time wheelchair user to be elected to Parliament.
She was born with Gaucher's Disease, a genetic condition that causes bones to break easily, and has used a wheelchair since 1984.
She has been Labour MP for Aberdeen South since 1997.
