The Scottish Liberal Democrats have unveiled Tavish Scott as their new leader for
Holyrood.
The former transport minister and favourite for the position won the leadership race
over MIke Rumbles and Ross Finnie. The trio have been campaigning for the top job since the
surprise resignation of Nicol Stephen early last month.
The announcement comes following a ballot of party members at noon today. All three
leadership hopefuls were at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh this afternoon when the new
leader of the party was revealed by MP Malcolm Bruce, president of the Scottish Lib Dems.
Tavish Scott polled alost 60% of the vote.
Mr Stephen, an Aberdeen MSP, quit early last month citing the strain on his family life for
his departure.
Mr Scott is the third leader of the party in Scotland since devolution, after Jim
Wallace and Mr Stephen, and will control a group of 16 MSPs.
