A 76-year-old woman was dragged along the ground by a "despicable" man trying to steal her handbag, police said.
The woman was in Clydebank Health Centre car park at around 1.25pm on Friday when the man approached her and tried to steal her bag.
Strathclyde Police said he grabbed at the bag and knocked the elderly woman to the ground.
He then dragged her along the ground when she managed to keep hold of her handbag.
She suffered minor injuries and bruising during the assault.
The suspect was described as white, in his early 20s and between 5ft 10ins and 6ft.
He has a medium build, short fair hair and was wearing a light-coloured top and trousers.
Detective Constable Iain Lobban said: "It's unthinkable that someone would target an elderly lady in this way, the person responsible is despicable and I'm sure the majority of people would hold him in contempt.
"I would appeal to anyone who may have any information about the suspect to please provide that information to us.
“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch - it's possible you may have seen something which could assist our investigation and help us trace the person responsible for this crime."
