The voices of hundreds of carers looking after a relative with dementia have been taken to the Scottish Government thanks to the tireless work of one man.

Tommy Whitelaw travelled round the country to gather the personal stories of carers in an effort to highlight their experiences.

He has brought the messages to Nicola Sturgeon at Holyrood on Wednesday.

Mr Whitelaw struggled in his role as a carer for his mother when she developed dementia, but he knew he was not alone.

His campaign to raise awareness of the disease has inspired hundreds of people to tell him their own stories.

The campaign took him round Scotland and he has received numerous letters, describing the loneliness and exhaustion suffered by many others.

The letters are now in the hands of the government and Mr Whitelaw is asking ministers to take action.
