Pedestrian dies after suffering head injuries in road accident

A man has died the day after being hit by a car in Edinburgh.

The 54-year-old man suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a blue Toyota MR2 on Corstorphine High Street at 6.20pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Western General Hospital for treatment but died on Wednesday.

Lothian and Borders Police said they would not be releasing his identity until all members of his family were notified.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision as their investigation continues.

A spokesman for the force said: "At the time of the incident the area would have been busy with pedestrians, and we want anyone who witnessed the collision, which happened close to the Corstorphine Inn, to contact police immediately."
