A five-year-old boy has died after apparently choking on some food at an after-school club.
The child, named locally as Louis Emaho, was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital after the incident at the Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill, Aberdeenshire, at around 4pm on Tuesday. He died a short time after arriving at the hospital.
It is thought that Louis, a pupil of Newtonhill Primary School, may have choked on the food, while attending the after-school class.
Grampian Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the child's death.
A spokesman for the force said a full investigation would be carried out and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
He said: "The child's parents are aware and officers are with them at this difficult time."
Local councillor Ian Mollison said the community has been "devastated" by the boy's death.
He said: "It is such a shocking thing to happen in such a close-knit community. It's very hard to take in."
