Two leading actors have given their support to a campaign aimed at raising awareness of forced marriage in Scotland.
Atta Yaqub and Shabanah Bakhsh, stars of Ae Fond Kiss, are backing a campaign for greater use of legislation that makes it a criminal offence to force anyone into marriage against their will.
Forced Marriage Protection Orders were introduced in Scotland in November 2011 and can result in a two-year prison sentence if breached.
Speaking in Glasgow on Sunday, Atta Yaqub said: "Forced marriage is very much a cultural issue and is not condoned by religion. It is also very different to arranged marriage where both partners agree to the union.
"It is hard to believe that there are men and women in Scotland who are suffering emotional distress or physical abuse in a marriage that they didn't agree to."
The awareness-raising campaign will run for six weeks and will be supported by a tour of further education establishments.
Anyone who is affected by forced marriage can contact the campaign's helpline on 0800 027 1234 or visit the campaign website.
