A north-east town has been identified as the crime-free capital of the UK, according to a study of home insurance quotes.
The study of three million home insurance quotes found that not a single theft claim had been made for Elgin.
The town topped a list of 16 places in the UK found to be the least likely to have claims submitted on home insurance policies.
The remarkable figures for the Moray town were in stark contrast to Stoke Newington in North London where nearly 34 claims were made to every 1000 policies between December 2010 and November 2011.
The low crime rate in Elgin is also reflected in the town being named in the top ten cheapest areas for motor insurance in the UK by the same website, Moneysupermarket.com.
