More than 2000 police support jobs could be axed when Scotland moves to a single police force.
Trade union Unison is threatening industrial action over the plans which would see one-third of workers losing their jobs when the Police Service of Scotland is created next year.
More than 800 police support staff have already lost their job in the last year.
The merging of Scotland's eight police forces is designed to deliver huge savings to the public purse.
The union says the job cuts means police officers will have to undertake the work carried out by support staff.
Union leaders say the changes could compromise frontline policing, taking officers out of communities and pushing up crime levels.
