A missing man from North Yorkshire who may have been in Scotland has been found dead.
Matthew John Thornton was reported missing from his home in Skipton by a friend on January 22 but had not been seen for a week before then.
The body of a man hit by a Metro train in the Gateshead area, near Newcastle, has been identified as the 45-year-old.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report has been sent to the coroner.
Chief Inspector Mark Warcup of Gateshead Area Command said: "Our thoughts are very much with Mr Thornton's family at this very difficult time. We offer our sincere condolences to them and his friends."
"I would like to express my sincere thanks to the public and media for their support over the past two weeks, during what has been an extremely difficult identification process."
