Survey finds English in favour of 'devo-max' powers for Scotland

A survey of political attitudes south of the border has revealed that four out of five English voters back "devo max".

The controversial option would give the Scottish Government the power to raise and spend its own money.

On Monday, a poll released by the Institute for Public Policy Research, showed that support in England for Scottish independence is still low.

However, with the Scottish Government announcing that it plans to hold a referendum on the issues in 2014, the report found that “the English electorate is dissatisfied” with the current make-up of Westminister.

The report found that there is a belief in England that Scotland does better out of devolution than it, with the country getting its fair share of resources from the UK Government.

More than half of English respondents to the survey, entitled The Dog That Finally Barked, believe that Scotland’s economy benefits more than England’s from being in the UK, while 80% backed the possibility of "devo max".
