A child died and his mother is in a critical condition after a two-vehicle crash on a busy Aberdeenshire road.
The woman and her 16-month-old son, travelling together in one of the cars, suffered serious injuries in the accident on the A944 Kingswells to Westhill Road at around 3pm on Wednesday.
They were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where the boy died. Staff said his mother remains in a critical condition.
Two other road users who suffered minor injuries were also taken to the hospital.
Emergency services are still at the scene of the accident and both sides of the road are currently closed between the Westhill roundabout and Kingswells roundabout.
Motorists are being diverted along the A93 North Deeside Road, from the roundabouts, and are warned to expect delays.
The road is expected to remain closed into the night as the scene is examined by crash investigators.
The accident happened between the Kingswells roundabout and the Four Mile Garage, close to Ardene House Vets.
Three fire engines were sent to the accident, two from North Anderson Drive and one from Altens.
