A driver smashed into a roundabout with a child in the front seat of his car while three times over the drink-drive limit.

Graeme Fyffe crashed the car after driving "erratically" on the A92 Dundee to Arbroath road and on Dundee's Balmossie Brae.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard police were contacted by the occupants of another car that was almost struck by Fyffe's shortly after 2am on Sunday April 24.

Fyffe then smashed into the Clearwater Park roundabout - damaging the brickwork and his car.

The court heard the nine-year-old child was not injured in the incident.

Fyffe, 40, of Fleming Gardens South, pleaded guilty to driving with 112 mcg of alcohol in his breath, compared to the legal of 35 mcg. He further admitted a charge of careless driving while in charge of a child.

Ross Bennett, defending, said that his client "did not have a drinking problem".

He added: "He accepts he acted totally irresponsibly.

Sheriff Tom Hughes ordered Fyffe to carry out 100 hours unpaid work and disqualified him from driving for one year.
