Severe disruption is likely to continue through the week as forecasters say that harsh weather conditions will worsen over the next few days.
STV weatherman Sean Batty confirmed that temperatures are going to drop over the next few days, with some parts of the Highlands possibly falling to -20 degrees centigrade by Thursday night.
Persistent snow showers are also forecast for the week ahead.
In the short term, Monday evening will be characterised by sub-zero temperatures causing widespread ice throughout Scotland and heavy drifting snowfall across the north and east. Highs of just 2-3 degrees centigrade are likely, and winds of 10-20mph in some parts of the east will make temperatures seem lower.
The west will remain largely dry throughout Monday, but light snow showers can be expected in the evening.
Overnight and into Tuesday morning, fresh winds will carry snow from the north and east across to the south west and icy conditions will continue across the country.
