The A9 has reopened after it was closed because a Tesco delivery lorry burst into flames.

Emergency services were called to the blaze between Carrbridge and Tomatin at around 2.50am on Friday. The road reopened just after 3pm on Friday.

It was understood the fire, which was on the metal bridge close to the Slochd Summit, started in the vehicle's wheel before spreading to the trailer.

Due to high winds damage was caused to the bridge and road.

Lengthy diversions were put in place for traffic heading north and south via Grantown-on-Spey.

The old A9 which runs beneath the metal bridge was also closed.

No one was injured in the blaze and no other vehicles were involved.

Tayside Police said the force was involved in assisting Northern Constabulary with the incident. It was understood the road was to remain closed for some time while structural engineers were called out to assess the damage.

Motorists were warned that there may still be delays, especially at peak times, due to traffic control.
